The Drumheller Resiliency & Flood Mitigation Project will manage the Flood Mitigation and Climate Adaptation System through to its completion in 2024.
What is the aim of the Drumheller Resiliency & Flood Mitigation Project?
Implement a comprehensive mitigation program for flooding and adaptation to changes in climate by 2025 with the following objectives:
- Communications & engagement
- Regulatory & approvals
- Conveyance capacity
- Structural measures
- Municipal Emergency Plan enhancements
The creation of the Drumheller Resiliency & Flood Mitigation Office will follow the principles of the internationally recognized Incident Command System (ICS).
What is the approach of the Drumheller Resiliency & Flood Mitigation Project?
The Drumheller Resiliency & Flood Mitigation project will take a phased approach.
This program includes:
- Making room for the river
- Reinforcing existing structural measures such as berms and dikes
- Building an adaptive system to protect the community into the 22nd Century
- Updating our municipal emergency plan
