The Little Market Farm – Where Roots Run Deep

Some dreams start with a whisper. For Annie and Jimy, it was Jimy casually saying, “We’re going to buy some land in the country and grow veggies.” Annie laughed it off at first. But he never dropped it. Years later, they were standing on four acres outside Torrington that felt like it had been waiting just for them.
At first, they were splitting their time between the city and the farm, still tied to their Calgary life. But the pull of the land was too strong. “It became very clear, very fast, where we would rather spend our days,” Annie says. They sold up, Jimy quit his job as a gas fitter, and by 2022, Little Market Farm was officially born.
Here’s the thing: they eat what they grow. So every tomato, carrot, or leafy green has to pass their own family table before it hits yours. That means no pesticides, no shortcuts. Just soil, sweat, row covers, and a whole lot of weeding. Chickens do their part too—bedding becomes fertilizer for the next year, closing the loop like nature intended.
Their cherry tomatoes are the rockstars of the farm. People call them “candy.” Vine-ripened, sweet, and gone faster than you can say “pass me another.”
From day one, Annie and Jimy weren’t just growing food—they were growing connection. “No one should live in a food desert,” Annie says. So the little farm store they opened isn’t just shelves of produce. It’s a hub where neighbours pop in for veggies, swap recipes, and share what’s going on in their lives.
One neighbour has become their unofficial hype man, telling everyone who’ll listen that the farm is here. He’s always first in line when the doors open, making sure the shelves are a little emptier by the time you get there. That’s the kind of word-of-mouth you can’t buy.
This year, Little Market Farm stretched out to the Olds Farmers’ Market, where they were welcomed with open arms. Next on the horizon? More mushrooms, more staff, and a bigger store to keep up with the growing community that’s cheering them on.
But don’t worry—the heart of the place isn’t going anywhere. It’s still Annie and Jimy, side by side, putting down roots and inviting everyone to be part of it.
Because Little Market Farm isn’t just about food. It’s about neighbours. It’s about slowing down. It’s about tasting something fresh and realizing—this is what it’s supposed to be like.
Here’s to dirt under your nails, candy-sweet cherry tomatoes, and farm stands that feel more like front porches.
Until the next dirt-road detour, farm-fresh find, and giggle-filled getaway—this has been your Gallivanting Gals, wandering wild and telling tales one stop at a time.
