Can you tour underground at the Atlas Coal Mine?

Yes, the Mine Portal Hike led by an interpreter will guide guests on a 75 minute tour. Guests are provided hard hats and lamps to wear. Sturdy, fully enclosed shoes are required for the tour. The tour is for ages 6+ (no exceptions).

How do I get to the Hoodoos?

The Hoodoos are located along Highway 10 east; approximately 16km from the Visitor Information Centre.

What’s the name of the World’s Largest Dinosaur and how many stairs to the top?

The World’s Largest Dinosaur is named Tyra and there are 106 stairs inside to climb to the viewing platform in the dinosaur’s mouth.

Where is the Visitor Information Centre located?

It is located at the base of the World’s Largest Dinosaur, 60 1 Avenue West, Drumheller.

Can weddings be booked at The Little Church?

Yes. Please contact the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce The Little Church to book, as they own and operate the Church.

Is the suspension bridge open?

Yes, it is!

Can we hike at the Horsethief Canyon?

There is a viewpoint only. Visitors are not permitted to hike into Horsethief Canyon as it is private property.

Where can we hike or bike in Drumheller?

There are 18km of pathways running along the Red Deer River to enjoy on foot or bike. There are also trails through Midland Provincial Park and Horseshoe Canyon.

What times does the Bleriot Ferry operate and is there a cost?

The Bleriot Ferry operates from 7:00am to 11:00pm from May to October generally. There is no cost to access the ferry.

How far is Dinosaur Provincial Park from Drumheller?

Dinosaur Provincial Park is 170km from Drumheller, so a 2-hour drive approximately.

What do I do if I find a fossil?

Digging up or removing a fossil is punishable with fines of up to $50,000 and/or one year in prison. If you find a fossil, photograph it and note any visible features (use something for scale, like a coin or a pen). Then locate it on a map, using permanent landmarks (use GPS if available). Leave the fossil buried and report the find to the Royal Tyrrell Museum. If it has been dislodged and is lying on the surface, take it to the Royal Tyrrell Museum.

How long does it take to go through the Royal Tyrrell Museum?

Visitors are encouraged to plan 2-3 hours for exploring the galleries, giftshop and hiking trails at the Museum.

Do I need to prepurchase tickets for the Royal Tyrrell Museum?

Although advance bookings are not required, walk-up admission is subject to availability. It is recommended that tickets be bought in advance to guarantee you will be able to enter the museum at your preferred time.

Where is the Last Chance Saloon located?

It is located in Wayne, which is sometimes referred to as a “ghost town.” Take Highway 10 east from central Drumheller, then head south on Highway 10X and cross the “11 Bridges”. The Saloon is located between bridges 9 & 10.
